Last year we were cowboys, this year pirates with the wacky
VeggieTales thrown into the mix. You never know what
you will find at DBC during VBS week. One thing is for sure though,
everyone goes away learning a lot about God in a
whole different way, and hopefully even a little bit about themselves
that they didn't know before.
No one could wait to see what crazy antics Bumpo and Bones
would perform each night. The Commodore tried her best to
keep them in check, but they seemed to have minds of their own.
By the end of the week though, even they realized
they had what it takes to be real heroes for Jesus.
Our numbers may not have been huge, but everyone who
participated put their all into this year's VBS.
Participants traveled from the Yo-Ho-Ho Opening Show to one of four stations.
Each night they visited Rock Monster Science Lab, Spyglass Bible Theater,
Whipcrack Island Games and Clapping Rock Crafts in their small "crews".
They met together in Spyglass Bible Theater Snacks half way through the evening
to create snacks based on the Bible Story each evening.
At the end of their group rotations they met again as a large group back at
Yo Ho Ho Closing Show before they left for the evening.
This year's Mission Offering for VBS went to Heifer International.
To make it more fun for the participants, we decided to give them a visual
image of how much money we had raised each night. We blew up an image
of a goat and cut it into 12 pieces. One share of a goat is $10 and
a whole goat costs $120. Each night we put another piece of our goat
on the picture in front of the sanctuary. By the end of Wednesday evening
we had enough money to already purchase one goat and by the end of the
celebration service on Sunday we had enough to purchase two for a total
of $240 raised. As part of DBC Youth's mission project for 2008
we will be matching the VBS donation, so we will be sending a total
of $480 to Heifer International. This was an amazing gesture
on everyone's part and the VBS staff would like to let everyone
responsible know how grateful we are for their generosity.
And to think, our goal was only one goat!
Our VBS Celebration Sunday brought everyone together one more time
to share with our congregation and the participants' families
everything that we learned and experienced during the course
of the week. Heather and I also took that opportunity to thank everyone
for all of their hard work and dedication because without
everyone's support, this community outreach wouldn't be possible,
Everyone enjoyed a potluck picnic immediately after the service
and shared some great food and fellowship.
Once again, Mr. John Rudiger
came through with a special celebration
cake surprise. Thank you "Mr. John"
it not only looked fantastic, it was delicious!
As part of our Yo-Ho-Ho Closing Show each night,
a slide show was shown from pictures that Bumpo and Bones
took each evening. To view some of those shots, click
